Game On - From zero to one

Only 6 out of 10 children, aged between 5 and 14 years old played sports. In Hong Kong kids like me are very lucky to have received proper basketball training. My friends and I founded an initiative called Game On. Game On aims to provide sports training for underprivileged children. Our mission is to help the community and provide free sports training to underprivileged kids in Hong Kong. After preparing our speech to convince St. Barnabas Society and Home. We went there and told them what we planned and our vision and mission. Out of my surprise they were happy to let us teach the kids in St. Barnabas Society and Home. We appreciated the chance, and we immediately went to work. We finished our planning of the drills that we need to teach the children, then we thought of some games to play during the training. After that we updated our website and took some photos for our profile. We also made a video of us stretching and doing warmups. We also prepared our materials for the training. I was agitated for the first basketball practice. Me and my friends went to the court and prepared thirty minutes before the training started. The kids from St. Barnabas Society and Home were very nice and friendly. We started by stretching and warm-ups. Then I taught them how to dribble. They were fast learners. We also played games. After that we practiced passing. They were fast-learners. At last, we did some shooting drills. We had great fun. I made a few friends too. I didn’t feel like coaching, I felt we were friends. I learnt how to be patient while teaching them. After the first practice we noticed that we had to manage our time better. I learnt a lot during the process. I am glad that my students enjoyed the lesson.
