Skipping Over Obstacles: SBSH X Game On HK Rope Skipping Clinic #SportsVolunteering

During the summer holiday, St. Barnabas Society & Home team up with Game On HK for a rope skipping training sessions for underprivileged children, creating an opportunity for children to learn about rope skipping while enjoying a fun activity away from the hot summer sun

Game On HK strives to provide children with opportunities to learn new sports while enhancing their physical fitness and confidence. Many of the participants had no experience with rope skipping and over the three training sessions, the progress they made was very impressive.

The training began with the basics, our coaches were there every step of the way showing the children proper technique about skipping rope. Coaches emphasized the importance of basics, guiding the students to find their own rhythm as they jumped. With patient guidance, our coaches adjusted their form, providing suggestions and encouragement. This nurturing approach allowed the children to master the fundamentals without feeling overwhelmed. As the sessions progressed, the children were introduced to fancier moves, including “cross unders” and “partner skipping”.

The excitement was out of the roof as they attempted to master these new skills. Coaches also organized partner activities where kids partnered up to practice together, fostering teamwork and communication skills. This not only enhanced their rope skipping ability but also built friendships among the participants. By the final day, the children were participating in relay races, where they showcased their skills and tricks. The room was filled with excitement and cheers as they raced against one another, demonstrating their newfound abilities. The races served as a showcase of their hard work, allowing them to apply what they had learned in a spirited and competitive environment.

A special thanks to our volunteers, who played a crucial role in coaching and creating a positive environment that helped the children gain confidence. Watching the kids to go from nervous beginners to skippers was truly fulfilling and heartwarming for our volunteers. There’s an old saying in Chinese that goes ‘Giving back is greater than receiving’. This event is truly a show case of the old wisdom and a win-win situation for both the children and volunteers.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to St. Barnabas Society for their generous support and to our dedicated volunteers. Game On HK remains committed to providing children with more opportunities to learn and enjoy various sports and games. By nurturing their talents and providing guidance, we aim to contribute and give back to our society through the power of sports.
