YMCA X Game On HK Basketball Camp

Between March 2nd and 23rd, Game On HK hosted 4 basketball training sessions for underprivileged children in collaboration with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), an NGO dedicated to providing all-round services for those in need and striving to improve their quality of life to foster intercultural harmony.

During these 4 training sessions, the kids were given a chance to learn various basketball skills from our enthusiastic volunteers inside the cozy indoor basketball court provided by YMCA.

The 4 days of training gave the kids a step-by-step guide to the colorful realm of basketball.

They were first taught the basic rules of basketball, as well as some fundamental basketball skills like dribbling and passing. On the second and third days, shooting and lay-up skills were added to the kids' arsenal. On the last day, besides perfecting the techniques they had learned before, the kids were given the chance to join a 3v3 competition to consolidate their skills and put them into practice.

Of course, learning basketball wasn't all about doing drills after drills. The kids were also given the chance to play many exciting basketball games, such as HORSE, tag, and beat the buzzer. Prizes like drinks were also given to kids who were attentive during the training.

As the program came to an end, it was gratifying to witness our students not only go from someone who could barely dribble on the first day to an athlete who could make a perfect jump shot on the last day, but also to learn it with loads of smiles and waves of laughter.

Game On and YMCA would also express their sincerest gratitude to our sponsor, Decathlon, for sending friendly volunteers for the kids. Without them, all these training, improvements, and happiness would not have been possible.

Game On will continue to endeavor towards making sports accessible to underprivileged children, just as each one of us in the community should.
